MST3K - The Five Best Mystery Science Theater Episodes

Updated on December 1, 2010

Top 5 Best MST3K Episodes

Mystery Science Theater 3000, or MST3K to fans, was one of the strangest, funniest and best shows on TV. Over eleven years, 198 episodes aired before the Satellite of Love finally crashed to earth in 1999, ending the series.

I've seen them all. That's right -- I've watched every episode of Mystery Science Theater -- most of them more than once. Here are the five episodes that made me laugh the hardest, the ones I keep coming back to over and over.

Each episodes last about 100 minutes. They're split into 9-10 minute segments on Youtube. Take an hour and watch one or two of these. If you've never watched MST3K before, leave a comment below and let me know what you think. Enjoy!

Hobgoblins (season 9, episode 7) - One of the most popular MST3k episodes of all time

A group of Gremlin clones lands their flying saucer on a film set and, because their secret power to make people's fantasies come true threaten the world, a security guard locks them in a film vault. Thirty years later, the gremlins break out...

For genuine zaniness and outright bizarre scenes, this episode ranks among the best ever. The Club Scum scenes are memorable.

Prince of Space (season 8, episode 16) - "I like it very much."

A smoking starship full of beaked spacemen from the planet Krankhor land in Japan and threaten to take over the world. Only Prince of Space (who spends his days shining shoes with a group of plucky orphans) and his cardboard mask can stop the aliens.

Sheer Japanese insanity at a breakneck pace. It'll have you saying, "I like it very much."

Santa Claus (season 5, episode 21) - "... whether he is in a cave or behind a million mountains."

Santa Claus, Merlin the magician and a pack of children live at the north pole in an airborne compound full of surveillance equipment. On Christmas Eve, while Santa tries to deliver his gifts, a demon named Pitch tries to foil him.

Mixing theology with Christmas myth in a confusing blend, this episode offers some of the most strange and intriguing moments ever. Especially the dream sequence featuring the giant doll.

The Deadly Mantis (season 8, episode 4)

A giant insect terrorizes the world. Yep, that's pretty much the premise of the film. A classic 50s B monster movie so bad that it truly achieves awesomeness -- with the help of Mike and the robots.

Daddy-o (season 3, episode 7) - Fast cars, fast women, high pants

A greasy-haired part-time truck driver who wears his pants very high races a blonde through the park, sings at a road house, and somehow gets involved in a drug smuggling plot. Oh yeah, and his pants are VERY high.
